Day 3 - Evergreen

I guess this is what we used to refer to as a "squirt" around the Rooney household. "Spray" was the word we were searching for, I believe. This version is based on a project from a book called "Flower Arrangement with a Japanese Touch" which has a host of creative and beautiful ikebana-style projects. I love the addition of the paper cone to the basic spray of greenery.

The two layers of paper are functional as well as decorative, strengthening the cone so you can run wire through it for hanging up on the door, without the paper tearing under the weight of the boughs. I collected all this greenery from our yard. A nice branch of long-needled pine makes a great backbone for one of these, if you happen to find one lying around. Its a good excuse for a walk through the woods.
