Having a little get-together this holiday season? I do mean little, because you could go crazy trying to make a ton of these invitations. But if you have a small guest list and you feel like playing with paper, stop by your local thrift store and check out the paper ephemera. Usually there's a little nook or shelf somewhere with old greeting cards and even packs of old invitations. Like these:

I love how they just say "An Invitation". I'm surprised the envelopes don't say "An Envelope" on them. I've been meaning to try reworking these -- take them shopping, give them a makeover, that kind of thing. I started with the one on the left in the top photo. For this, I just wrapped decorative paper around the existing invitation, with a cutout to reveal the words "An Invitation" on the front. A little gold ribbon adds a bit of flash (a bit labor-intensive for something like this, however). The front, right example is more deconstructed; the information blanks are mounted on a piece of pretty paper and backed with card stock. The "Invitation" type was cut out, with a ribbon threaded through it and tied around the card. In the third example (green one in back), the type bits are combined with paper accents and mounted on card stock which has been printed with a botanical motif. Of course, the possibilities are limited only by your supply of double-sided tape!
