Gingerbread cookies are my most favorite thing to bake for the holidays. While I was making these, I remembered the year that my cousin Jim came by to visit my family and brought us something that I loved at the time, and still stands out in memory among many Christmases worth of gifts big and small. It was a gingerbread-person version of our family, with the parents, six kids, and even the dog. I remember being slightly suspicious that he was just pretending to have made them himself, and maybe I was being gullible to believe that he did. But the dog clinched it. Where else was he going to get a gingerbread dachshund?

I used more candy than usual on this year's gingerbread people. I usually go with the raisins and currants, but someone in the house has a big time sweet tooth, so I picked up an assortment of candies to try out. Tonight there was even more candy on the agenda at my in-laws' house, where we all worked on decorating a gingerbread house (the kit kind) with my niece Jillian. Lots of fun and sugar.
So this is it, folks! The final post. We've arrived at the last day of waiting and anticipating. When you wake up tomorrow, you'll be waking up to Christmas morning. Thanks for visiting me here at the Garden. I hope your Christmas morning is just the way you like it to be.
From my family to yours, Merry Christmas!
Oh, and if anyone is looking for that old box of cookie cutters?
I have those too.

Ellen, you're amazing. I'm not the only one who thinks so. Jim is standing right behind me and he says he did too make those cookies. Likewise, Jack, Paula, Mary, Nora and Natalie - think you're great, that is, not make the cookies.
Love, Mazo
