Day 22 - Stocking

So you don't think this looks like a stocking, eh? Apparently you've never been on the receiving end of a Rooney family Christmas Eve stocking. Some years ago, when the siblings in our family stopped buying each other gifts, we introduced the exchange of little stocking-stuffer gifts at our Christmas Eve get-together. From the get go, no actual stockings were used. Paper bags turned out to be a lot more practical.

This particular paper bag is dressed up a little, something to have around in case you need to throw together an emergency gift. Got some extra cookies or candy around? Maybe an ornament or two? Throw them in the bag, and you've got a nice little backup plan. Of course, I'm not really that organized in real life, I just like thinking this stuff up.

The ribbon runs through slits from the back to snug up and tie in the front, which is a gives it a little of the suspense that gift bags are sometimes lacking. The greeting on the tag is recycled from an old Christmas card. Hand written would be nice too, but sometimes the existing typography inspires other choices of color, shape, style.

Well, tomorrow we load up our sleigh and ride off for our Christmas visiting. I'll be posting to you from the road tomorrow.
