Day 12 - Merry

I really should have worked harder in penmanship class. "Merry" is a holiday message. "Nerrvy" is not. If you try a project like this, it would be handy to have a photocopier and/or some tracing paper handy. Then you could 1) letter the message you want, 2) blow it up to the size you want, 3) transfer the lettering to the tracing paper, 4) put it face down on the back of the paper you want to cut, and 5) go over the design to create guidelines for cutting.

This was originally envisioned as a simple paper-doll style decoration which, thanks to its accordian folds, would be able to stand up on its own on a shelf or mantle. I decided to make it out of two layers of decorative paper, and then I decided it was time to try some lettering. The letters are cut out of the darker, more opaque paper. It lends itself to screening a row of votive candles, though it is probably a terrible fire hazard. I'm not saying that it isn't, so use caution and sense. I think it would also work well hanging in a window or just sitting on the mantle among other festive decorations.

p.s. Its day twelve. We're halfway there!
